Specific objectives
1-To recover and leave a documentary record of part of the history of Cuban cinema in the voice of one of its protagonists.
2-Highlighting the values of Cuban cinema and its main figures.
3-Connect audiences inside and outside Cuba with Cuban cinema, its values and main figures.
Theoretical justification
Cuban cinema is one of the most influential in Latin America and stands out worldwide, especially for its ability to tell exciting stories that reflect national culture, in its broadest spectrum, and national idiosyncrasy.
The scope and recognition of Cuban cinema is the result of the work of important filmmakers who put their knowledge and learning capacity to the development of the Seventh Art. All of them have been brought together and organized by the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry, which is now celebrating its 65th anniversary.
Although there is an extensive bibliography, written by important intellectuals, that narrates the history of Cuban Cinema and that today is treasured and preserved in libraries and specialized centers, the new trends of cultural consumption impose on us in correspondence the design of new communicative products and the use of digital platforms to transmit information and knowledge about these topics that we consider vital.
In response to this need, we selected the Video Podcast, as one of the most widely accepted communication modalities among audiences and users of digital platforms, to relocate that part of the history of Cuban cinema and its main figures since 1959 and socialize it for the younger generations inside and outside Cuba.
For this we have the figure of Dolores (Lola) Calviño, screenwriter and wife of the late Cuban filmmaker Julio García Espinosa. Lola is undoubtedly a charismatic communicator, who is part of the foundational generation of Cuban cinema in the post-revolutionary period and is a living memory of that period.
Form
The Video Podcast will be recorded in a set on the second floor of the ICAIC which can be in the Projection Room or in the video podcast room. It will have Lola Calviño as the main figure and when appropriate, depending on the topic, there will be one or two guests.
Three fixed cameras will be used with a cameraman, who will set the shots as follows: camera 1 will have a general shot (PG) of the set at a contrapicado angle above the set level; camera 2 will have a medium shot (MP) of the main figure of the video podcast and camera 3 will look for the medium shot (MP) of the guest or the Two Shot (TS) of both in case there are two guests.
For the sound, three dynamic microphones will be used, podcast type and from the console for the same effect.
It will have a pleasant and informal tone; the main figure will maintain the interest of the audience always from the anecdotal point of view. When necessary, there will be guests to anchor and contextualize the topic under analysis.
Content
The video podcast “Como Lola lo cuenta...” will talk about Cuban cinema and the cultural, professional and intellectual phenomena and processes generated around this manifestation of the arts.
In what can also be considered a rescue of the memory of Cuban cinema during the first decades of the Revolution, Lola Calviño will tell anecdotes and experiences about the most important film productions of the time, the filmmakers, screenwriters, actors and actresses who stood out and have transcended.
We will also discuss the ways of doing things at the time, the ethical and professional values of those who were part of the film industry, such as discipline, rigor, respect and others that marked the daily rhythm and on which the course of a production depended.
In case of the presence of guests to share the space, they will respond to the intention of giving a sense of continuity to the history of the main figure. In this way and from their statements, value judgments about the present we can establish a timeline that shows the evolution of Cuban cinema, its migrations and transformations.
We will also have archival materials, videos, film fragments, all of which will contribute to enrich the stories visually and argumentatively.
Distribution
The video podcast will be released in unison on the Youtube channels of the ICAIC, the Cinemateca de Cuba and the production company Audiovisual Futura Video Música. From there, it can be replicated, on a non-profit basis, on social networks and digital platforms of the Ministry of Culture and its institutions.
It will be evaluated to be proposed to the management of the Cuban News Channel, and if deemed convenient with those of other channels of the Cuban Television, and the management of Cubavisión Internacional, for its transmission.
