Puente de Notas

Background

The current proposal has its precedent in the various initiatives and activities that were carried out for the first time in 2010, organized by the Cultural Association “Music All”, with the support and sponsorship of the Municipality of Rome and the Cuban Embassy in Italy.

In 2010, the Cuban Youth Orchestra for Ecology (OJCE) was born. This was the realization of an idea developed by the Cuban musician, arranger and orchestra conductor, Shama Milán and the support of the Music All Cultural Association, led by Roberto Ravenna.

The initiative was based at the “Paulita Concepción” Elementary School of Music in Havana and its main objectives were to develop the students' musical training, promote environmental awareness and, at the same time, turn them into promoters of environmental protection with music as the main tool. This effort involved environmental projects, luthiers, since the instruments were made with recycled wood, institutions such as the National Council of Artistic Education (CNEART) and the House of Africa.

According to the directors of the Paulita Concepción Elementary School and the CNEART, the project had a significant impact on young people both in terms of the consolidation of an awareness of environmental protection and in the development of their musical training. One of its most important moments was undoubtedly the successful presentation of the OJCE to the diplomatic corps in Cuba for the representation of African countries. The concert was held at the Casa del África.
